“Vidmontiene wins in Mini Swift while Fletcher podiums again in Junior”
Fort Lauderdale, Florida – It was a winning weekend for Team Benik during the final round of the Superkarts! USA (SKUSA) Winter Series as Enzo Vidmontiene delivered the Fort Lauderdale, Florida based program another victory. Taking on the AMR Motorplex for the final rounds of the popular winter karting program and leaving with success, Team Benik will now shift their focus to this coming weekend’s ROK Cup USA Florida Winter Tour event in Ocala, Florida.
“It always feels good to close a series with a win,” explained Nick Mitchell. “To add wins and podiums in two different divisions and strong runs by many others is a great momentum builder for the rest of 2021, and we will look to take that momentum to the top step of the podium again this coming weekend.”
Leading the way in the Mini Swift ranks, Vidmontiene scored Sunday’s pole position and main event win after failing to finish on Saturday. Leading during round three and forced to retire, the Team Benik driver was back Sunday with the goal of redemption. Vidmontiene earned that redemption and respect as he took the checkered flag in the final SKUSA Winter Series event of 2021. Asher Ochstein continued his rookie season in Mini Swift and had a strong run on Saturday to finish sixth while Sarah Bradley improved from her 12th place result on Saturday to garner a sixth place finish on Sunday.
Jeremy Fletcher led Team Benik in the X30 Junior ranks adding his second podium result in as many weekends. Always a threat for race wins and podium results, Fletcher earned the third step of the podium on Saturday before adding another top-five position Sunday in fifth. Michael Costello found himself in the top-ten on both Saturday and Sunday with a pair of impressive runs. Finishing eighth on Saturday, Costello advanced forward one more position on Sunday to cross the line in seventh as he gained twelve positions and was named the biggest mover of the X30 Junior main event after failing to finish the prefinal with a chain failure and starting the main event from the tail of the field.
Team Benik drivers Royce Vega and Sebastian Cortes battled hard in the Micro Swift division as the pair continues to gain experience and improve on their results. Vega would earn a pair of top-fifteen results finishing 14th and 15th while Cortes secured an 18th place result on Saturday. Sunday would see the young Sebastian Cortes finish an impressive sixth in the prefinal but issues in the main event relegated him down the running order.
Logan Vajda competed in the toughest class in SKUSA competition on the weekend as he battled hard in the X30 Senior ranks. Vajda logged more laps as he continues to learn under the Team Benik guidance and continues to gain experience with each passing lap.
Mitchell added, “There is no time off for us. We are back at it this weekend in Ocala and we hope that we can continue our recent success. Congrats to Enzo, Asher, Sarah, Jeremy, Michael, Royce, Sebastian and Logan on another successful weekend.”
Team Benik will be on track this coming Thursday in preparation for round two of the ROK Cup USA Florida Winter Tour. Joining the team for their first Florida Winter Tour event in 2021 will be Micro ROK driver Royce Vega. Looking to use the extra track time to gain more experience as he looks forward into the 2021 season, the Ocala Gran Prix and ROK Cup USA program was the perfect opportunity to join his Team Benik teammates.
