Fort Lauderdale, Florida – It was a championship winning weekend for Team Benik at New Castle Motorsports Park. Taking on the final rounds of the Superkarts! USA (SKUSA) Pro Tour, Enzo Vidmontiene did just enough to win the Mini Swift National Championship as Troy Ferguson scored the Micro Swift fastest lap in both Saturday and Sunday’s main events.
“A huge congrats to Enzo for his Pro Tour Championship,” expressed Nick Mitchell. “Enzo has worked hard all season long and won a lot of races, he really deserved this. Despite not finishing in Sunday’s main event, Enzo showed his dominance in the class gaining enough points after drops to earn the title. Also, another congrats to Troy Ferguson who continues to improve and impress. Troy scored the fastest lap of both Micro Swift finals showing the true speed of our Benik chassis.”
As a winner in the Florida Winter Tour, SKUSA Winter Series, United States Pro Kart Series and SKUSA Pro Tour this season, Vidmontiene has been the class of the Mini category. Whether he is competing with a Vortex ROK or IAME Mini Swift platform, he has been in position to win in many of the nation’s biggest events, and that was the same this weekend. After qualifying fourth and falling to 11th in Saturday’s prefinal, Vidmontiene rebounded to cross the stripe in eighth. Sunday saw the youngster earn a fifth-place result in the prefinal and even though he failed to finish Sunday’s final, Enzo Vidmontiene nabbed the title and the accreditation of SKUSA Pro Tour National Champion – Mini Swift.
Asher Ochstein had another steady weekend as Saturday saw him qualifying sixth, finish seventh in the prefinal and eventually earn a fifth-place result in the day’s main event. While Sunday did not go as he would have liked, the Team Benik driver has quickly proven that he will be a threat for race wins and podiums as 2022 approaches as he looks to follow in the footsteps of Vidmontiene’s success this year. Gabby and Giuseppe Guidera joined Team Benik again in Indiana and battled in the Mini Swift category. Taking on their second Pro Tour event, the brother and sister duo held their own gaining knowledge and experience that they will use in the future as they climb up the running order.
A trio of drivers battled in the Micro Swift class as Royce Vega, Sebastian Cortes and Troy Ferguson aimed to put their Team Benik chassis at the front of the field. Vega earned a top-ten result on Saturday and looked to improve that on Sunday before contact in the main event. Cortes qualified seventh on Sunday, a career best qualifying effort for the young driver in the SKUSA program while Ferguson scored the fastest lap in Saturday’s final, and repeated that on Sunday as he drove from 28th to seventh to also be named the biggest mover of the race.
X30 Junior driver Michael Costello battled in the front half of the 30-kart field and progressed forward on Saturday after qualifying in the 21st position to finish 12th. Sunday saw Costello finish seventh in the prefinal before falling back just outside the top-ten in the day’s main event.
