Fort Lauderdale, Florida – Descending on the New Castle Motorsports Park this past weekend, Team Benik entered six drivers in the second event weekend of the United States Pro Kart Series (USPKS). When the final checkered flag waved at the end of the weekend, it was Mini Swift driver Enzo Vidmontiene that led the way with a win and two podiums while Asher Ochstein and Michael Costello added top-ten results.
A multi-time winner in 2021, Vidmontiene looked to continue his success in Indiana. Scoring a third-place podium result on Saturday, the Team Benik youngster returned to the track Sunday to claim a dominating victory. Showing the true strength of the 2021 Benik chassis, teammate and fellow Mini Swift driver Asher Ochstein joined Vidmontiene in the top-five on Saturday with a fourth-place result and was the biggest mover in Sunday’s main event gaining 28 positions to drive from 34th to sixth in the fourteen-lap final.
“Great weekend for our brand and for both Enzo and Asher,” explained Nick Mitchell. “The Benik chassis has a very wide tuning window and when you are in that window, it is pretty easy to run fast laps. With a driver and power, the kart is one of the best on the track and our drivers have been proving that so far in 2021.”
Competing in the X30 Pro Junior class, Michael Costello showed pace on Saturday placing his Team Benik entry solidly in the top-ten with a seventh-place effort. While Sunday did not go as smooth for him, Michael battled hard to a 16th place finish in one of the toughest classes in karting. X30 Pro driver Logan Vajda battled hard in the premier ranks of the United States Pro Kart Series program and improved his finishing results by seven positions between Saturday and Sunday’s main events.
In the youngest class on the docket, Team Benik would enter the likes of Royce Vega and Luke Giglio. While Vega is no stranger to national level competition, the youngster was able to improve from his 32nd place result on Saturday to finish 17th on Sunday. Taking nearly two seconds off his lap time between Thursday’s practice sessions and the final checkered flag of the weekend, it was a huge step in the right direction for Royce. Luke Giglio was a late entry to the Team Benik lineup for the weekend but used the USPKS event to gain experience to better himself for future events later this season.
Mitchell continued, “All in all I am pleased with the weekend. We always want to win but we can leave New Castle knowing that we had the pace to podium in both the Mini and Junior classes. The next stop for us is the Superkarts! USA Pro Tour.”
With a few weeks off, Team Benik will now travel clear across the country for rounds three and four of the Superkarts! USA (SKUSA) Pro Tour. Taking place at the Utah Motorsports Campus in Tooele, Utah, Team Benik will look to continue their momentum on the West Coast. Any drivers looking to join the Benik program for that event, take advantage of new and used Benik Kart deals or to come be a guest of the team are invited to contact Nick Mitchell.
