Fort Lauderdale, Florida – Picking up where they left off earlier in the month, Team Benik returned to the top step of the podium this past weekend at the Superkarts! USA (SKUSA) WinterNationals, the first round of the popular Pro Tour. Taking on the NOLA Motorsports Park near New Orleans, Louisiana, Enzo Vidmontiene was once again the class of the Mini Swift field taking two main event victories as Team Benik drivers secured six top-ten results.
Four of the team’s strongest performances came from the Mini Swift class with Vidmontiene and Asher Ochstein. Overcoming some adversity after qualifying on Saturday, Vidmontiene drove to the front of the field and asserted himself as one of the drivers to beat. Scoring the win on Saturday, the now multi-time winner in 2021 returned Sunday to double up on the weekend and leave the first Pro Tour event as the point leader. Fellow Team Benik driver and 2020 Micro vice-champion Asher Ochstein added a pair of top-ten runs in his rookie season in Mini Swift claiming a pair of consistent ninth place results.
“Enzo has been on a tear as of late and Asher is quickly gaining speed in his rookie season in the Mini Swift class,” explained Nick Mitchell. “The pair provide a powerful one – two punch and will be a major threat for the national championship this season.”
Sebastian Cortes provided Team Benik with another pair of top-ten finishes, this time in the Micro Swift division. Consistently in the top-15, Cortes battled his way forward in both main events to earn two tenth place results. Chasing a top-five finish, Cortes secured an impressive drive forward to finish sixth in Saturday’s prefinal showing the speed of his Benik chassis. Fellow Team Benik driver and Micro Swift competitor Royce Vega claimed a 14th place finish on Saturday.
After a DNF on Saturday, Michael Costello returned to the X30 Junior grid on Sunday and secured a 14th place finish while Logan Vajda added consistent results in X30 Senior as he battled one of the toughest fields in all of karting.
Mitchell continued, “The competition in 2021 is no joke, and we have to be on our game week in and week out to ensure success. The entire Benik operation worked as a team this weekend and when we do that, we are as strong as any team in the paddock. We can’t wait for the next one.”
With the first quarter of the season now complete, Team Benik has several used team chassis available to purchase. For any new Benik customer that purchases a new or used chassis, Team Benik will offer a free tent space at an upcoming event (excluding Las Vegas) to allow a national level race experience with a premier team.
